Diplomatic relations between Sudan and Ethiopia have hit a new low as the Sudanese government officially recalled its ambassador to Addis Ababa. This move follows grave accusations from Khartoum alleging that Ethiopia has been providing direct military support, specifically via drone technology, to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan’s ongoing civil war.

The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement claiming that surveillance and intelligence data suggest "foreign interference" originating from Ethiopian territory. The ministry asserted that drone strikes targeting strategic positions in Sudan were facilitated by Ethiopian logistics, a claim that has sparked outrage in Khartoum.

In a swift rebuttal, the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs dismissed the allegations as "baseless and provocative." Addis Ababa maintained its position of neutrality, stating that its primary interest remains a peaceful and stable Sudan. "Ethiopia is committed to the principle of non-interference and continues to advocate for a Sudanese-led peace process," the statement read.

Tensions between the two Horn of Africa neighbors are not new, often fueled by long-standing disputes over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) and the fertile Al-Fashaga border region. However, the introduction of drone warfare allegations adds a volatile new layer to the friction. Analysts warn that if these diplomatic ties continue to fray, it could destabilize the broader East African region and complicate international mediation efforts to end the Sudanese conflict.
