The Office of the Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia has published a policy update highlighting significant advancements made across the nation’s economic, technological, and social sectors.

The publication, titled “Policy Focus: Prime Ministerial Deliverables,” details key outcomes achieved through the implementation of the Homegrown Economic Reform program and strategic government projects.

According to the report, Ethiopia’s flagship agricultural initiatives have significantly enhanced food security and reduced foreign currency expenditure. By scaling up domestic wheat production, the country has successfully phased out wheat imports, yielding annual savings exceeding $1 billion.

The agricultural agenda has expanded beyond traditional cereal farming to incorporate urban agriculture, commercial livestock, milk production cooperatives, and modern vertical farming techniques aimed at building a resilient national food system.

The report underlines significant leaps in Ethiopia’s technological capabilities, citing the successful launch and utilization of the ETRSS-1 satellite for earth observation and data collection.

To address climate vulnerabilities, the government has integrated cloud seeding technology into its weather management framework, boosting agricultural productivity during seasonal dry spells. Concurrently, national investments in Artificial Intelligence (AI) research and digital infrastructure continue to drive the transition toward a digital economy.

Under the national "Ethiopia Produces" (Ethiopia Tamrt) campaign, the government has focused on expanding small, medium, and large-scale manufacturing industries. Key interventions include:

The Prime Minister’s Office emphasized substantial investments in human capital and social protection. High-profile educational projects, such as the Abrehot Library and the Science Museum, have been established as central hubs for learning, research, and innovation.

In public health, emphasis has been placed on expanding local manufacturing of assistive devices for persons with disabilities, enhancing specialized medical care to reduce reliance on overseas treatment, and scaling up community-based school feeding programs.

Anchored in the Medemer (synergy) philosophy, the report highlights ongoing structural reforms within public institutions. Initiatives aimed at building democratic institutions, improving civil service productivity, introducing workplace ergonomics, and expanding affordable housing schemes remain central to the government's long-term development strategy.

"These coordinated efforts reflect a deliberate shift toward sustainable development, self-sufficiency, and institutional strength across all sectors of the nation," the official policy statement concluded.
