TIGRAY, ETHIOPIA — Fresh battlefield reports reveal intensifying armed confrontations, heavy artillery fire, and significant military realignments between the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) and Tigrayan fighters across multiple sectors in northern Ethiopia. Despite official government claims that hostilities have largely subsided into minor security sweeps, updates from the region point toward a resurgence of guerrilla-style operations and escalating tensions.

Heavy Clashes Near Atbi and Eastern Fronts

On Saturday morning, large ENDF military convoys were observed moving southwards from Wukro toward the regional capital, Mekelle, or redirecting toward Atbi. Shortly after these troop movements, severe clashes erupted in the outskirts of Atbi, where local residents reported hearing heavy gunfire and artillery shelling exchanged between federal forces and Tigrayan fighters.

This engagement follows recent military movements from Konaeba toward Atbi and separate clashes near Haeni. Analysts suggest that Tigrayan forces are actively pressing toward key transit corridors, potentially aiming to disrupt federal supply lines and challenge the consolidation of the interim administration in Mekelle.

Tactical Realignments and Central Tigray Escalation

In central and northern Tigray, federal troops appear to be repositioning their assets. Partial ENDF withdrawals from Rama toward Adwa and Axum have been observed. This redeployment appears intended to reinforce federal positions in central Tigray—such as the areas around Abiy Addi and Wambawamba—where federal forces have reportedly faced increased pressure and lost ground to Tigrayan combatants.

Meanwhile, around Shire, federal forces launched heavy artillery strikes targeting movement by Tigrayan fighters on the city's outskirts. Reports also indicate skirmishes to the east and west of Rama, with unverified claims alleging involvement from neighboring Eritrean military intelligence elements along border zones.

Emerging Conflict Dynamics

While federal spokespersons maintain that major military campaigns are complete—attributing remaining violence to isolated criminal groups while emphasizing disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration (DDR) programs—ground reports present a starkly different reality. Tigrayan forces appear to be reorganizing into decentralized guerrilla units.

Military observers warn that as local forces regroup, small-scale engagements could rapidly scale into urban attacks within major towns and cities, complicating peace initiatives and political stabilization across the region.
