ADDIS ABABA — In a historic joint opening session of the House of Peoples' Representatives and the House of Federation, Ethiopia officially inaugurated its 7th parliamentary term today, marking the formal establishment of a new federal government. The high-profile assembly featured critical leadership elections and the official appointment of the executive branch's top leadership.

During the parliamentary proceedings, Mr. Ahmed Shide was officially elected as the Speaker of the House of Peoples' Representatives. Ahmed Shide, who previously served as the Minister of Finance, brings years of economic leadership and executive expertise to the helm of the country's highest legislative body. Joining him in the parliamentary leadership is Mrs. Ayelech Eshete, who was elected as the Deputy Speaker of the House of Peoples' Representatives. Together, the newly appointed speakers will steer legislative priorities, oversee parliamentary committees, and manage house deliberations over the coming term.

In a pivotal moment of the session, Dr. Abiy Ahmed was officially appointed to serve as the Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. Nominated by the winning Prosperity Party, Dr. Abiy Ahmed’s confirmation secures his leadership mandate as head of the federal executive.
