The political atmosphere in the Jimma Zone reached a fever pitch this week as the Prosperity Party (PP) officially launched its campaign in the Gomma 2 constituency. The event served as a high-profile introduction of the party's candidates, headlined by none other than Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD), who is seeking a seat in the House of Peoples' Representatives (HoPR) from this specific district.

The campaign launch was attended by high-ranking officials, including Nemera Bulli, Head of the Political Sector and Capacity Building for the Oromia Prosperity Party branch, and Jimma Zone Administrator Tijani Nasir. Their presence underscored the strategic importance of this constituency, which the party is framing as a cornerstone of its national vision.

Addressing a large gathering of supporters, Nemera Bulli emphasized that the Prosperity Party is "demonstrating Ethiopia's ascent through action." He argued that casting a vote for the party is synonymous with ensuring the nation's sovereignty and continued development. "Choosing Prosperity is confirming Ethiopia’s supremacy," Nemera told the crowd, linking local electoral success to the party’s broader "Grand Narrative" of national transformation.

Jimma Zone Administrator Tijani Nasir echoed these sentiments, pointing to tangible infrastructure developments in the Gomma Wereda as evidence of the party's impact. He told the residents that they are witnesses to how the party’s "mega-projects" have improved livelihoods. In a direct appeal to the local electorate, Tijani congratulated the voters of Gomma 2 for what he called a "historic opportunity" to vote for the Prime Minister, whom he described as the "architect of Ethiopia’s prosperity."

While the Prime Minister remains the marquee name for the federal parliament, the party also introduced its lineup for the Regional Council. The regional candidates include Fuad Raya Abbagissa, Iftu Mohammed Abdu, and Nezif Mohammed Amin Sheisa.

The campaign event in Jimma highlights the Prosperity Party’s strategy of blending national leadership appeal with localized delivery records. As the general polls approach, the focus on Gomma 2 is expected to intensify, serving as a litmus test for the party’s popularity in the Prime Minister’s home turf. For the voters of Jimma, the choice presented is clear: a continuation of the current developmental trajectory under the direct representation of the nation’s top executive.
