Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen, who currently plays for Wolfsburg and formerly starred for Manchester United, has reportedly collapsed on the pitch once again during his national team's friendly match against Ukraine. Following the incident, the friendly fixture between the two nations at Odense Stadium had to be abandoned.

The 34-year-old midfielder suddenly collapsed on the field in the 65th minute of the friendly match held in Odense. The incident caused immense shock among players of both teams, technical staff, and fans inside the stadium. Players from both countries quickly formed a protective ring around Eriksen to allow medical personnel a clear space to administer emergency treatment.

In a statement to the country's media after the incident, Morten Boesen, the chief doctor of the Danish national team, confirmed that the player is now conscious and in good health. "Christian is doing well; he even walked off the pitch by himself," the doctor said. He added that the Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator (ICD) device functioned exactly as expected. While the player was briefly unconscious, he regained consciousness very quickly and has now been taken to the hospital for further medical examinations.

Denmark national team captain Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg expressed his emotions, saying, "The situation was deeply shocking. However, the speed with which everyone moved to help him was truly commendable." Team coach Brian Riemer also noted that the team is maintaining ongoing contact with the player and the medical professionals at the hospital.

It is remembered that Christian Eriksen previously suffered a cardiac arrest and collapsed on the pitch during a Euro 2020 match against Finland in 2021. His life was saved by immediate emergency medical intervention on that day, and he returned to football eight months later after being fitted with an ICD (Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator) device to regulate his heart rhythm.

Following his return to the sport, the midfielder played for Brentford and Manchester United. During the last summer transfer window, he joined the German club Wolfsburg, making 34 appearances over the course of the season. Eriksen was making his 151st international appearance for Denmark when he collapsed yesterday. Currently at the hospital, Eriksen has sent his regards to his teammates with a reassuring message saying he is "OK."
